You have to wonder...

...how some people made it to adulthood. And then I have to wonder how I end up working for them. That's all I'll say about that.

On another note....
My in-laws left to go west yesterday. That in and of itself is not much news. But, when you consider that they're going on a 2 week hunting trip to chase pheasants and you consider they're both in their mid 70's... that's pretty amazing. I hope to be even half as active as they are when I'm that old, providing I live that long. It's only another 40 years, and the first 36 have gone by pretty quick.

They still farm 100 acres or so, have his-n-hers tractors, keep cattle and 6 or 7 horses. The cattle are raised to sell to cover their annual pheasant hunting trip. Good eatin' beef, too. All natural, no drugs or steriods. Just happy cows eating good ol' pasture grass and hay that my in-laws have put up.

They'll load the horses up and take them into the mountains for trail rides whenever their schedule lets them. They also go on at least 2 multi-day trail rides a year - one from Tellico Plains over into NC, and the other one is a week long ride in Florida. Their horse trailer has a small camper in the front half that they stay in.

The really good news for me is that my husband is following right in their footsteps. He won't sit still for a moment before he's planning his next activity. I really do think that faith and staying active keep you young. Barring unforseen circumstances, he'll be with me for a good long time. I like it like that. :o)

And another note...
I heard from my kid last night. He gets off work Saturday evening. Looks like we'll be doing something when I go visit. :o)

Thankfulness
I read on the blog of a friend that we should always find something every day to be thankful about and write it down, no matter how small it is. Sounds like a good idea, so here goes...

I'm thankful for the life that I have lived that has brought me to where I am now. I know that everything I have gone through before now has prepared me for what I will face today and tomorrow. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to grow in maturity and spirituality to reach where I am today. Thank you Lord for letting me make mistakes, learn from them, and then using them to lead me here.

Weekend plans

Yeah, I know, it's only Tuesday, but I've already got plans for the weekend. Friday, I'll be cutting out of work early afternoonish or so and heading to visit family in West Virginia. I have an uncle up there who isn't doing so well. He's fighting cancer, and it's winning. Quickly. I don't want to stay very long because visits tire him out, so I'll head over to Ohio on Saturday to visit the kid.

Plan A calls for the availability of my kid and decent weather. We'll go haunted housing. I haven't been since I moved here in 2002. They just don't put much value on it. They like corn mazes around here, which are okay, but they're not haunted houses.

Plan B is in case the kid is available, but the weather is crummy. It's a movie or bowling, something indoors that we can do.

Plan C is in the event that the kid is not able to come out and play for whatever reason (work, date, overloaded with homework.... um, nix that last one....) If that happens, I'll probably head over to Dinwiddies in Bellbrook to watch my sister sing. She's in a blues band and they'll be playing there Saturday night. Then again, the place is considered a restaurant, so it is possible that the kid may want to go listen to his aunt, too. We'll see.

My husband won't be able to join me for any of this. He works for a paper mill. His machine makes the paper that the Dayton Daily News and the Tradin' Post are printed on, among others. Those are both papers that I grew up reading when I was a kid in Ohio. It's kind of weird that he makes the paper for them, but I digress... They run their machines 24/7/365. He works the funkiest schedule of nights, days, off time, on time... we keep a chart on the fridge so I know when he'll be home for dinner and when not to expect him. He's supposed to be off this weekend, but there are a bunch of people out on vacation or being trained right now. This means that he's scheduled to work all of his off days. He won't have a day off until at least October 31st. It's crummy, but it's part of the job. *sigh*

First post

Howdy all. This is my first post, and I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to write about. I guess I should start with a little bit about myself.

I'm happily married, have been for 2-1/2 wonderful years. He's my best friend. We met through the Internet on a mailing list for people who ride old Honda motorcycles. We both had the same type. When I came through his part of the county on a solo trip, he chased me down to introduce himself and say hello. It's a long story that should probably wait for it's own post, but it's very romantic. At least, I think it is. :o)

We're both really involved with our church. I publish the church bulletin every week and am the secretary/treasuer of our women's missions group. He's a trustee. This past year, we were asked to direct the vacation Bible school. That was a great challenge, and we really enjoyed it. We've been asked to direct next year's too, so I'm sure that you'll hear more about that as time rolls on.

I have 2 great kids. One is a step-son from a previous marriage. He's 16 and lives in Ohio. He live with us for about a year when he was 15. I miss having him close.

The other kid is my step-daughter from this marriage. She's married and has just had her first baby a few months ago. We have a grand-daughter to spoil! Life is wonderful.

I work for a plastic injection molding plant as a production planner and purchasing agent. I should mention that it's a really small plant, with only 3 people in the office at the moment. I actually wear a few more hats than this, but those are the main 2.

My husband and I are working on our retirement dream. Okay, maybe it isn't retirement yet, but it will be, one of these days... We're building a campground for motorcyclists. The hope is that eventually we will both be able to quit our jobs and run the campground. When it really gets off the ground and running, we should be able to hire somebody to watch it for us so we can ride away for a few days every now and then. That's the hope, anyway. We'll see what reality brings.

I guess that's just about everything right now. I'm sure I'll come up with some more stuff in the future. Until then, what exactly do people blog about, anyway?
